Lead Software Engineer - Front End

What We Are Looking For: At Distyl we’re bringing AI to the F500 and deliver novel and delightful user experiences. We’re looking for experienced Front End Engineers who are excited to define the future of work with a focus on human value. You will build the UI/UX patterns in which AI is deployed and used by the world’s most important institutions.Success at Distyl requires an obsessiveness about the user’s experience with our product and a drive to deliver great software. As an early member of our FE engineering team, your day to day will vary from writing code, collaborating with product and design on defining our products, and building core engineering infrastructure.Senior level candidates are expected to have experience with delivery architecture, developer experience, and mentorship or management of junior staff members.Key Responsibilities:Building Enterprise Grade Frontend Applications: You will collaborate closely with the rest of our team to deliver high quality frontend applications.Solution Design: Collaborate closely Distyl AI Strategists to deeply understand customer’s workflows and design AI experiences.End-to-End Software Ownership: Take charge of the entire software lifecycle, from service development to deploying them in customer cloud environments.Improve Developer Productivity:Senior engineers architect our software to ensure engineers across the org can easily contribute and help mentor junior engineers in best practices.Qualifications:Strong Coding Skills: Strong command of frontend development using React/TypeScript is essential. Distyl AI Fellows Program is an unique opportunity for graduate students and researchers to work at the vanguard of AI technology. In collaboration with Fortune 500 customers, alliance members like OpenAI, and our team at Distyl AI, fellows will have the chance to make a real impact in the AI industry.We currently offer the Distyl AI Fellowship along three distinct tracks:Data Systems track:Carry out novel research in developing Information Retrieval (IR) systems with our crack team of IR experts. You will carry out this research in conjunction with academia (e.g. University of Waterloo) and industry (e.g. F500 customers). This is an opportunity deploy your work directly to many of our customers, as well as publish in premier conferences (e.g. SIGMOD).Reliability track:Conduct research to enhance the reliability, safety, and performance of AI models, with a focus on model vetting, evaluation, and robustness. You will pioneer the UI/UX patterns in which AI is deployed and used by the world’s most important institutions.Success at Distyl will require pushing the boundaries of AI design beyond the current chat interfaces seen in ChatGPT and Claude. To do this you will develop deep empathy for operators at the world’s most important institutions while appreciating AI’s potentials and pitfalls.As our first product designer, your day to day will encompass the full Product Design lifecycle. You’ll partner with our Product and Engineering leaders on early stage product ideation, run design sprints, build prototypes to market test ideas, and build dev ready mocks for our frontend engineering team.Key Responsibilities:User Experience, Interaction and Visual Design: You will be guiding the full product development lifecycle from ideation to design sprints, from wireframes to dev-ready, pixel-perfect designs.Prototyping: You will translate user research and product stories into high-resolution mockups to sell and validate early product ideas.User Research:You will collaborate with Distyl’s AI Strategists and Engineers to uncover what users need and how best to communicate that information to them.Design System Development: As an early-stage startup, our design language is still a work in progress, you’ll help shape how this comes together.Workflow Design: Some of our systems have conversational interfaces, helping define how AI should interact with humans in expected and unexpected pathways is key.
